Bushman's River Mouth or rather Boesmansriviermond (its real name, meaning Bushman's River Mouth in Afrikaans) is an idyllic town situated at the mouth of the Bushman's River. This town with its wonderful views of the 2nd longest tidal river in South Africa and access to both river and sea beaches started life as a holiday destination for the farmers from nearby Alexandria. Real development only started happeing in this area in the late 70s. Until then most houses didn't even have electricity, but ran on gas! Bushman's River Mouth has now expanded to include Riversben, a development further along the river. From Bushman's River Mouth, one has access to the river. The river has exceptional birdlife including the majestic Fish Eagle. Motorboats and skiing is allowed on the river, but is not recommended by this website becuase the negative impact on the local environment.
